I believe that Florida is a heaven for the rich and more difficult for the middle and low income population. Add up your sales taxes for the year and you would be suprised of how much of a low income family income goes for that tax. It is nothing for the wealthy. Doing away with the sale tax and imposing an income tax would hit the huge incomes of the wealthy much more then the poor. Lets get rid of the sales tax and get the income tax.

Tax Questions & Answers
I don’t think that the sales tax will make people wealthier personally. I live in Chicago and the sales tax here is the highest in the nation. it’s 9.75%. My cousin lives in MN where there is no sales tax and she is still dirt poor, lol. it’s the truth. so nope I dont think doing away with the sales tax will make that dramatic a difference.
My sentiments exactly — and the key reason that the grossly mis-named “Fair Tax” has ZERO chance of EVER becoming law. It’s languished in committee in the House for a decade for good reason — politics. The proponents can claim to be trying to do something, but they know full well that it will never reach a vote as it would be exposed for folly that it is if it were debated publicly on the floor.
The wealthy love sales taxes and hate income taxes for very good reason. Sales taxes cost them FAR less tax in the long run than an intelligently implemented graduated income tax.
Go visit Oregon and try to find cities like Los Angeles, Miami, etc. Nothing against Oregon at all, I like visiting. No sales tax would be nice. However, it’s a huge source of income for cities and states.
Income tax tends to affect the middle class more than you think. Lots of middle class families are labeled as “upper class” even though the father and mother are simply working more than one job to support their family and pay off their debts.
If you think Florida is a difficult place for the middle and lower class, you haven’t been to the rest of this country recently, have you? Tons of Californians here are losing homes. An increase on income tax and the removal of sales tax won’t help them.
The other solution is to force businesses to pay the sales tax. This will, however, cause prices to increase and cause small honest businesses to fail.
Illinois has a flat tax, 3% of income, PLUS sales tax. AND we have property taxes as well. They never do away with taxes, they add more. Our sales tax is higher than yours.
